The Metro Education Department has secured a permit to construct a two-story addition to the Waverly-Belmont Elementary School building located at 2301 10th Ave. S. near 12South.
The new building will span about 37,000 square feet and include classrooms, an office, a cafeteria and a gymnasium.
In addition, the permit covers renovations to the existing 38,500-square-foot building.
Brentwood-based Orion Building Corp. is overseeing the work, with the permit valued at $8 million. Nashville-based Tuck Hinton Architects is handling design.

Vanderbilt University Medical Center officials has secured two permits for work in separate buildings on the campus, according to Metro Codes Department documents.
The VUMC building located at 1301 Medical Center Drive will receive a TVC chiller with the permit valued at $815,180. The VUMC building located at 1211 Medical Center Drive will receive similar mechanical updates, with that permit valued at about $3.15 million.
Orion Building Corp. is handling both jobs.
