Pinkberry preps for Cool Springs

Frozen yogurt chain Pinkberry, which opened its first Nashville-area store on West End last fall, is preparing another outlet on Mallory Lane in Cool Springs near the Thoroughbred 20 movie complex. An opening is set for the middle of next month.

More retail at McEwen

Southern Land has tweaked its plans for the southern edge of its McEwen development in Franklin. The new layout for Southside at McEwen comprises three retail buildings between the nearly completed Whole Foods store (far left in the image below) and the McEwen office building. The larger buildings will be 19,000 square feet each, the smaller restaurant building will be about 7,000 square feet. Southern Land's previous plans had called for a hotel and some residential units in that area.

Fast-casual chain plans Cool Springs store

Phillip and Mary Armour O’Reilly, who in 2008 brought the Newk’s Express Café concept to this region with a Murfreesboro store, plan to open another location in Cool Springs early next year. The store will be at 535 Cool Springs Blvd., the strip center where Atlanta Bread Co. recently shut one of its stores. By the way, the Murfreesboro store’s sales are up 33 percent year to date and recently won the 27-store chain's award for the fastest growth.

Vanderbilt's 100 Oaks gets LEED certified

Vanderbilt University Medical Center's clinic complex at 100 Oaks has attained LEED Certification for Commercial Interiors by the US Green Building Council (USGBC). It's VUMC's first facility to achieve LEED Certification. From The Reporter:
“Sustainability is important to Vanderbilt University,” said VUMC’s Director of Facility Planning Cyril Stewart. “At One Hundred Oaks we saw the opportunity for a project that repurposed an existing building that had fallen into disuse to better serve our patients, create a high quality environment for our employees, and to continue to improve this great neighborhood,” he said.
VUMC is now in the early stages of planning its second outpatient medical office development. The Cool Springs project could eventually reach 500,000 square feet in size and cost $200 million.

Brentwood resident Teresa Outhier has opened the Cool Springs doors to a franchise store of Brilliant Sky Toys & Books, an eight-year-old high-end concept that originated in Michigan. The location is the company's ninth.

Jewelry retailer gets Cool Springs digs

Jewelry retailer James Avery today announced the opening of its new location at the CoolSprings Galleria, the company's first store in Tennessee. Chris Avery, CEO and President, comments: “We’re pleased to be expanding into this new market where we believe many people share the same values of our company," said company CEO Chris Avery in a statement. "We hope this new location will make shopping more convenient for our existing customers, and will allow us the opportunity to introduce James Avery to new customers in the Franklin and Nashville areas.” From the presser:
The store features an extensive selection of typically hand-crafted designs offered primarily in sterling silver and 14k gold, and in various sizes and gemstones. The CoolSprings Galleria location will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Jackson National's natty numbers

Jackson National Life is coming to Franklin on bit of a roll. The insurer and asset manager today reported first-half profits of $360 million on revenue of $9.7 billion. That puts its bottom line on pace to beat year-ago numbers by 7 percent. The company says it has doubled its share of the annuity market since the spring of 2009. Jackson National exec buys $4M estate

Last week, right after Michigan-based insurer Jackson National Life Insurance Co. revealed plans to set up a regional headquarters that will bring some 400 jobs to Cool Springs, its second-in-command plunked down $4 million on a 68-acre equestrian spread near Leiper's Fork.Mike Wells, vice chairman and chief operating officer of Jackson National, announced the insurer's expansion last Tuesday in a local press conference and then closed the next day on the property, located at 3395 Bailey Road. Seller F. David Bender had put the four-bedroom home and lands on the market in October 2008 at $4.9 million. Amenities of the gated estate include a riding ring, stables and two stocked ponds, with over a mile of paved roads connecting them. Wells has previously been based in Jackson National's Santa Monica, Calif. office. Susan M. James and Mary Catherine McAnulty, agents with Viva Properties LLC, represented the seller. No information is available on the buyer's agent, if there was one. Update: According to Susan James, Darla Duncan of Redd Realty in Franklin represented buyer Mike Wells.

Nutrition store sets up shop in Cool Springs

Max Muscle, a franchisor of sports nutrition stores based in California, has opened its first Tennessee store in Boyle's Meridian development in Cool Springs. A grand opening featuring some serious bods is set for next week.
