Franklin safety company booming under Smith & Wesson

A year ago, the sale of Universal Safety Response to iconic gun maker Smith & Wesson was billed as a synergy play that would enable the Franklin-based maker of safety barriers to piggyback on S&W's client base. USR's former owners take hit in wallet

When gun maker Smith & Wesson bought Franklin-based Universal Safety Response in July, it paid $58.3 million in cash and stock. The deal also came with earn-out provisions based on Smith & Wesson's stock price (Ticker: SWHC), which has since steadily trended lower. That means the earn-outs are now worth about $7 million less.
