The ultimate loaded question

A doc in the West Virginia town whose residents have voiced their skepticism about LifePoint's acquisition overtures says the medical staff have done some research. But they really think other voices need to be heard in the debate.
“The public needs to have a say in the discussion. Does the public want to be served by a for-profit or a not-for-profit hospital?”

'Why is LifePoint back again...?'

The folks in Princeton, W. Va., are up in arms about the potential sale of their city's public, nonprofit hospital to Brentwood-based LifePoint Hospitals, according to a story in today's Princeton Times.

Local hospital stocks rise on positive HMA note

An upgrade of Health Management Associates by Baird analyst Whit Mayo is giving a boost to shares of Community Health Sytems (Ticker: CYH) and, to a lesser extent, LifePoint Hospitals (Ticker: LPNT) heading into the weekend. And the lesson is: You don't win by hiding

Pali Research analyst Sheryl Skolnick gives kudos to LifePoint CEO Bill Carpenter, who didn't take his ball and go home after she came out swinging two months ago. Instead, Carpenter made himself and his team available to chat, a strategy that seems to have mollified Skolnick, who'll be in town for a sit-down soon.
