West Virginia deal a no-go

The Bluefield Daily Telegraph reports today that LifePoint Hospitals won't get a deal to buy Princeton Community Hospital in West Virginia:
W. Fred St. John, president of the PCHA Board of Directors, said the board had discussed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with PCH, Bluefield Regional Medical Center, LifePoint and West Virginia Hospitals. St. John asked for a motion to enter into an MOU, but nobody on the board offered to second it. St. John then asked for a motion not to proceed, but board member Robert Holroyd, a local attorney, pointed out that he could not ask for a negative motion. Since there was no second, the MOU motion died. Members of the audience applauded, adding “Thank you” and “Thank you board,” after the MOU motion died.
