Documentary Channel buys Baghdad shooting film

The Documentary Channel has acquired Incident in New Baghdad, an Oscar-nominated film chronicling the 2007 shooting of two Reuters journalists in Baghdad, according to company president James Ackerman. Ackerman's team, whose channel is carried by satellite providers DirecTV and DISH Network, will broadcast "Incident in New Baghdad" in late May.

"The on-the-ground reality of our wars is too often kept hidden from us — so I applaud the Documentary Channel's courage in bringing Ethan McCord's story to center stage."

Documentary Channel paying tribute to the American worker

During the month of September locally-based Documentary Channel will be featuring documentaries showcasing the lives of various Americans as they go about their different professions.

the series follows four vibrant and unforgettable characters as they walk through the daily routines of their VERY different professions -- a rural sheriff solving a murder, an avant-garde musician performing in smoky cafes, a brilliant yet foul-mouthed professor of religion and a southern preacher ecstatic in his faith. With its raw and memorable character studies, "The Work Series" shares unique insight into the spectacular and the mundane, the amusing and the redemptive, to provide a remarkable documentary film experience that is entertaining, eye-opening, and empowering.

The documentaries, all of which were directed by renowned filmmaker Daniel Kraus, are set to air on Sunday's throughout the month at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Documentary Channel teams with P&G on series

Nashville's Documentary Channel has partnered with Procter & Gamble's Eukanuba Pet Foods division and a British production company to air the series "Eukanuba Extraordinary Dogs" early next year. The 13 30-minute episodes are being produced now and will be broadcast in some 50 markets around the worldwide.
"DOC continues to work with talented filmmakers and outstanding companies to produce compelling, newsworthy content that we can telecast to the masses," adds James Ackerman, president and CEO of Documentary Channel. "Our customized programming partnerships are a solid and trusted formula that ultimately creates the opportunity to better educate and inform consumers."

Documentary Channel founder leaves to launch venture

Tom Neff, the founder of Nashville-based Documentary Channel, has left that five-year-old venture to launch his own production company that will focus on what he calls branded documentaries. Neff had been moved aside as president and CEO of the Documentary Channel a year ago by James Ackerman, who has overseen the channel's conversion to a for-profit. Neff, who helped develop the concept of sponsored documentaries about 20 years ago, says he's looking for funding for a film about Red Cross founder Clara Barton as well as two series.
