Benefits firm in health data analytics JV

Local employee benefits firm Virtus has partnered with similar companies based in Kentucky and Maryland to launch a company that will crunch masses of data to help clients lower their health care costs. Virtus President David Johnson said Acclaim Health Analytics will "identify cost drivers and compliance with treatment protocols" and help insurance plan members improve their health.

SeniorMetrix sells to NaviHealth

Nashville's SeniorMetrix has been sold to recently formed Brentwood-based NaviHealth for an undisclosed sum, according to reports yesterday, this one from Venture Nashville Connections.

Brentwood, Tennessee-based SeniorMetrix, provider of predictive modeling to optimize post-acute care of the frail elderly, has sold to NaviHealth, a recently created and not previously announced company here.

NaviHealth is led by executives previously with Healthways and CVS/Caremark, among others; and, is backed by the Welsh Carson Anderson & Stowe private-equity firm, Select Medical and Uiversal American. Navihealth, with Healthways, CVS and many other actors, seem to be congregating around a shared sector.

NaviHealth is led by, among others, former Healthways General Counsel Clay Richards and boasts major partners including those mentioned above.

Digital Reasoning lands investment

Data analytics firm Digital Reasoning has landed deal with investment firm In-Q-Tel that will make the Franklin company's technology available within the U.S. intelligence community. According to the announcement this morning, IQT has made a strategic investment in Digital Reasoning, along with a licensing and development agreement. The amount of the investment was not disclosed, but a spokesman for the company said the deal is part of an investment strategy for Digital Reasoning to secure more venture capital funding this year.
“With the explosive growth of data over the last decade, there is a need for a new generation of solutions that provide timely, actionable intelligence at massive scale,” said T.J. Rylander, Partner on IQT’s Investments team. “The technology being developed by Digital Reasoning offers great promise to address this challenge and meet the unique needs of our customers in the U.S. Intelligence Community.”
Digital Reasoning's analysitc software allows users to review facts and associations across millions of documents to identify useful information, even among coded or disguised messages. It's primarily used by the Department of Defense.
