A group led by veteran investor Clayton McWhorter has formulated what it says is a budget-neutral plan to reshape the U.S. health care system. Among its features: A Federal Health Reserve that will be the linchpin of the health insurance system and various subsidies for lower-income people.

But that won't keep some area businesses from trying to a gain promotional edge based on the concept:
While shoppers may not realize yet that there won't be a holiday this spring, several middle Tennessee retailers are offering their own economic stimulus. Electronic Express and Haverty's Furniture both advertise a "Tax Free Weekend".

Cat Financial gets called out in W. Va.

Bredesen looks to close family biz tax loophole

Gov. Phil Bredesen wants to repeal the tax benefits enjoyed by FONCEs, family-owned non-corporate entities, a move that would generate about $45 million per year. The repeal – which appeared to be dead earlier this year – looks set to put the Governor at odds with the new GOP-controlled General Assembly.
