Local Embraer maintenance facility renews deal

The Nashville International Airport maintenance site of Brazilian manufacturer Embraer has renewed its contract to work on planes belonging to Colombian airlines Copa Holdings. The local arrangement began three years ago.

Plane manufacturer with local site laying off fifth of work force

Brazil-based Embraer says the steep drop in demand has forced its hand and that more than 4,200 people must go. The company runs a Nashville maintenance center that caters to regional airlines and was expanded beyond 200,000 square feet three years ago. It's not clear how many of the hundreds of local jobs are being eliminated.
