Music business entrepreneur Gary Belz is relocating the House of Blues Studio D complex lock, stock and barrel from Memphis to his Berry Hill complex. He said move, which is expected to be complete by the end of the year, will take advantage of Nashville's still-growing demand for recording space and put some extra cash in his pocket.
Belz -- a noted Memphis preservationist who also helped redevelop The Peabody and save the Galloway Mansion -- says the decision to pull up stakes was a difficult one. "But, frankly, it's just harder and harder to get business to come to Memphis," he says. "I didn't want to see (Studio D) going to waste. It was just sitting there not producing any income, and I couldn't afford to subsidize it any longer."
