Dispensary of Hope expands in home state

Nonprofit prescription drug access organization Dispensary of Hope has seven new partner sites across Tennessee to provide access to medications for the uninsured and underinsured. The sites include Maury Regional Medical Center, Maury Regional Ambulatory Care, Cherokee Health System, Volunteers in Medicine Health Clinic, Three Rivers Community Health, Mountain Hope Good Shepard, and Room at the Inn. Dispensary of Hope expands clinic network

Local nonprofit Dispensary of Hope has added seven new sites to its national network. Through the Dispensary, the pharmacy locations in Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Louisiana and Alabama will provide short and long-term access to prescription medications to underserved individuals. Since its launch in 2003, the Dispensary has collected and distributed tens of millions of dollars worth of pharmaceuticals and filled more than 200,000 prescriptions for patients who otherwise couldn’t afford them.

Dispensary hooks up with Sanofi

The U.S. arm of French drug giant sanofi-aventis has signed on to supply excess drugs to the Dispensary of Hope, a national pharmacy venture run under the umbrella of Saint Thomas Health Services. Sanofi's work with the Dispensary will focus on cardiology, internal medicine and diabetes medicines.
“It is important to our organization to use every avenue possible as we work to provide our patients with medications that are needed for daily life, so to have sanofi-aventis U.S. join us as we strive to seek and dispense medications speaks highly of the company’s commitment to help patients in need obtain quality prescription medication,” said Scott Cornwell, chief operating officer of Dispensary for Hope.

Nashville General partners with Dispensary

Nashville General Hospital is partnering with local nonprofit the Dispensary of Hope to provide long-term prescription medication access to Nashville's uninsured. The Dispensary's Continued Access Program provides access to more than 2,000 drugs for chronic conditions such as heart disease and diabetes to patients who otherwise could not afford needed medications. “We are committed to providing support to hospitals that serve on the front lines of health care for vulnerable populations,” says Scott Cornwell, chief operating officer of the Dispensary of Hope in a statement. “Offering this program to Nashville General Hospital patients is part of that commitment and is at the core of our mission.” Patients can enroll at Nashville General or by calling the hospital's social services department.

Dispensary of Hope wins Social Innovation award

Saint Thomas Health Ventures' Dispensary of Hope was named a 2010 Social Innovation Award winner. The awards, given by Justmeans.com and Financial Times, reward "both companies with proven success and those with very good ideas, which the judges felt had a lot of potential to drive change." The Dispensary was honored in the "most influential supply chain management strategy" category.

Dispensary hits the big 5-0

The Dispensary of Hope has opened its 50th medication dispensing location in Branson, Mo. In total, the non-profit medication access venture now has 50 sites in 12 states — and wait list of potential sites with 120 names on it.

BlueCross donates $75K for Rx access

BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee has donated $75,000 to the Dispensary of Hope. The donation will fund a new medication dispensing site in Chattanooga and four other Tennessee locations. The Dispensary, a nonprofit venture of Saint Thomas Health Services, provides access to prescription medications to the underinsured and uninsured.

The Dispensary of Hope, a six-year-old distributor of excess drugs backed by Saint Thomas Health Ventures, has opened its 36th site in Binghamton, N.Y.
