Bar Association names local leadership program participants

The Tennessee Bar Association has selected 13 Nashville attorneys among the 34 statewide to participate in its 2011 Leadership Law program. The program is designed to equip Tennessee lawyers with "the vision, knowledge, and skills necessary to serve as leaders in their profession and local communities." The 13 Nashville attorneys are:

Power outage leads Baker Donelson to close office

The large power outage that has affected several blocks downtown has led Baker Donelson Bearman Caldwell & Berkowitz to temporarily shut down its Commerce Street office. The firm's attorneys are working from elsewhere, as are those from Bass Berry & Sims.

Two Tennessee companies on Best Places to Work list

Law firm Baker Donelson Bearman Caldwell & Berkowitz and logistics giant FedEx have been named to Fortune's list of the United States' best places to work. Here's the release from Baker Donelson, which runs a large office on Commerce Street downtown. Other companies with a decent Nashville presence that made the list: Deloitte, Publix and Balfour Beatty Construction.

The latest hurdle to health IT investments

Parts of the Recovery Act has been touted by many — including local player Healthcare Management Systems — as a nice kick in pants for spending on electronic health records and other health IT projects. But the attorneys at Baker Donelson say providers may want to wait for a little while before committing serious cash. The criteria, you see, are still a little fuzzy.
Obviously, this is wreaking havoc in a number of ways - it is nearly impossible to know for certain if existing technology will qualify, or to make plans for investing in new information systems that can be paid for from incentive payments.
