McGhee Entertainment recruits Red Light GM

Veteran artist manager Greg Hill, general manager of the Nashville office of Red Light Management, has jumped to McGhee Entertainment to be president of its five-year-old Nashville outpost. Rodney Atkins, Adam Brand and Heidi Newfield have followed him.
Doc McGhee had this to share, “We opened the Nashville branch of McGhee in order to expand our presence within the Nashville music community, and in just under five years since our establishment in Music City, we have watched the fabric of our industry change to encompass much more under the management umbrella. With that shift, we are excited to expand and bring in someone with Greg’s vast experience to oversee operations within our newly structured Entertainment Co.”

Row firm merges with Texas lawyers

Entertainment law firm Zumwalt Almon & Hayes is joining forces with a Texas law group and will change its name on Jan. 1 to Shackelford Zumwalt & Hayes. The combined firm will house almost 50 attorneys on Music Row and in Dallas and Austin and the local office expects to add a handful of attorneys in 2011.
"We’ve been thinking about creating a new model for a long time, and met with several different firms over the past few years," said an excited Jim Zumwalt. "This was the first arrangement that really made sense. We’re focused on entertainment and technology and the Dallas, Austin corridor has a strong technology focus, too."

The renovated Sheraton Nashville Downtown has snagged the 2011 International Entertainment Buyers Association conference, which brings to town agents, talent buyers and other music biz types. This year's three-day show took place at the Hilton.

Clif Doyal has been promoted to executive vice president from the head of business development at AirPlay Direct, the Music Row-based digital music platform provider. Doyal has been in the music business for almost four decades as a drummer, booking agent, manager and promoter.

Tom Baldrica has been named president of Average Joes Entertainment, the label home to Colt Ford, Brantley Gilbert and other artists. A veteran of Music Row who helped develop the careers of some of today's hottest acts, Baldrica earlier this year left his senior marketing post at Sony Music Nashville.

Music Row's biggest free agent

Alan Jackson tells CMT.com he is no longer under contract at Arista Nashville after releasing a greatest-hits collection.
"I'm not saying I won't be on their label. We just haven't really negotiated anything for the future -- and I haven't with anybody, to be honest with you." He added, "I don't know what's gonna happen. We're just kind of seeing what the options are out there."

Buddy Lee buys in Atlanta

Buddy Lee Attractions, the 46-year-old booking agency, has acquired Metro Talent Group, an Atlanta firm that represents Edwin McCain, Corey Smith and other artists. The latter's founder, Cass Scripps, will work from Music Row full-time after a transition period.

Ex-Outback Concerts exec launches new firm

Darin Lashinsky has left his senior vice president position at Outback Concerts after more than 10 years to start National Shows 2. The concert promotion venture harkens back to the original National Shows, which was run by Lashinsky's father, Philip, and uncle, Gary.
Investing in NS2 are independent promoters Larry and Fred Frank of Frank Productions, the Madison, Wis.-based independent concert promoter. Though once known as primarily a promoter of country and family shows, the Frank brothers evolved and have found success in recent years promoting tours, or legs of tours, primarily by hard rock acts.
