On Oct. 1, the Second Avenue South building that used to house The Place nightclub will reopen as Luau Louie's Hula Hut, a beach-themed restaurant and bar that wants to be the first of a chain run by locally based Full House Management Group.

California-based Baja Fresh has closed its Green Hills location, saying the move was due to "lease issues." The company, once the first of its subspecies in the Nashville area, did the same with its Cool Springs location early this year.

Mayor Karl Dean this afternoon formally unveiled his plan to redevelop a corner of Hickory Hollow Mall into a community center that would recreation and health centers as well as a library and a park. The $18 million project will be accompanied by the construction in the former Hickory Hollow Dillard's space of an expo center that will become the home of many events now held at the fairgrounds. Dana Franklin has the scoop on Kingston Springs restaurateurs Jan and Bernie Strawn's move of MacK & Kate's to the Gateway Village project on Franklin Road.
The restaurant's owners' said in a release that they are sad to leave Kingston Springs and that the decision was a hard one. "However, we have decided as a family that Franklin would be a wonderful fit for our innovative concepts and great food," they said.

Toys 'R' Us Express will this Friday open the doors to a new store at the Prime Outlets center off Interstate 40 in Lebanon. The 4,000-square-foot location will become the latest addition to a series of tenant wins at the outlet mall that includes some flood-displaced stores from Opry Mills.

Cousins Properties says it has extended by three years the maturity of a loan for its part of The Avenue Murfreesboro, which opened in 2007. The money had been due late last month but $8 million in principal payments, $1 million in fees and a higher interest rate — 3 points over LIBOR versus 1.15 percent earlier — helped that deadline disappear.
