Local attorney launches IP firm

Nashville-based attorney Maria Spear announced today she has launched Spear Intellectual Property Law.

Spear, who previously served as contracts manager at Country Music Television and as an attorney at Everhart Law Firm, will counsel clients related to legal issues involving copyright, trademark, technology and intellectual property matters, according to a release. The firm, also to be known as Spear IP, will focus on the digital media, Internet/eCommerce, food/beverage, music/literary publishing, health care and fashion industries.

“Spear IP offers flat rates in an effort to take the surprise out of the billing process that many are used to when it comes to retaining an attorney,” Spear said in the release. “No unexpected billable time. I think clients will welcome this structure — particularly those in the throes of launching a new business.”

Spear is a graduate of the University of Michigan and Pace University School of Law in New York. She currently sits on the Nashville Junior Chamber of Commerce Board of Governors and is a member of the Nashville Entrepreneur Center.
