Vought parent acquired for $1.4B

Pennsylvania-based Triump Group (Ticker: TGI) has agreed to pay $1.44 billion to buy Vought Aircraft Industries from private-equity firm The Carlyle Group. The move is not expected to have a major impact on Vought's large local operation, which was the scene of a bitter union dispute about a year and a half ago.

Local plant won't get shot at $40B defense deal

The decision by Northrop Grumman not to bid for a $40 billion contract to build Air Force aerial-refueling planes takes away a large opportunity for the local operations of Vought Aircraft Industries. UPDATE: Vought spokeswoman Lynne Warne e-mailed to clarify that the local plant "will continue building components for the Airbus A330 (the proposed platform for the Northrop Grumman refueling tanker) regardless of this recent development." Cessna kills project, hurts Nashville plant

Nashville's Vought Aircraft Industries was expecting to do a major business deal with manufacturer Cessna -- only the latter has pulled the plug. The plant will lose out on the $1 billion contract it had counted on from the construction of the new Columbus aircraft. Via the Dallas Morning News.

Vought workers vote to end strike

After 17 weeks of a contentious standoff, workers at the airport-area plant will head back to the production line next week.
Under the contract proposal, employees with more than 16 years of experience would still accrue pension benefits until retirement, but the pension plan would be frozen for employees with less experience. The company will contribute to a retirement savings plan for those workers.

The aircraft manufacturer and Nashville representatives of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers have agreed a deal that will be put to a vote soon.
