Centennial seeking CON extension

Centennial Medical Center is asking the state’s Health Services and Development Agency to extend the expiration date of a 2008 Certificate of Need as it continues work on the $143 million, multi-phase project. Thus far, the HCA hospital has completed some of the work approved by the state agency in ’08, including the creation of the new Sarah Cannon Cancer Center, and started on some more — like the new medical office building on 23rd Avenue. But spokeswoman Carol Fite said the hospital is asking for a 24-month extension from the March 1, 2011, expiration date so it can continue the CON work on a timeline that provides the least disruption to patients. Still unfinished is Centennial's new heart center, which will shift 51 beds from Skyline Medical Center to Centennial Medical Center.

The expansion includes four state-of-the-art operating rooms, a pre-operative and recovery space, new laboratory and pharmacy, as well as a new entrance, patient drop-off area, lobby and waiting areas. "The expansion accomplishes our goal of enhancing the experience for our cancer patients by centralizing the resources needed for diagnosis, treatment and aftercare in a single building," said Ryan Simpson, administrator and COO for the cancer center.
