The Times writes about Emma's big decision

Changing how you go about doing your work is the type of decision that can mortally wound a successful small or mid-sized business. But it's one Emma CEO Clint Smith and his team felt they needed to make a couple of years ago. The New York Times this week wrote about the web marketing company's software overhaul, which was rolled out a year ago. Yes, it came with hiccups and glitches. But it has set up the company to take future growth in stride.

The principal operating guideline was to design a flexible system that would remove the need to do anything like this again. “We didn’t know what the marketplace would look like in five years,” Mr. Smith said. “Also, we didn’t know how databases would evolve in five years either. We couldn’t design for the future, but we could design something that could adapt to what the future will bring.”

New batch of Nashville entrepreneurs

The Entrepreneurs' Organization of Nashville added 14 new members this fall, bringing its total 2010 recruitment to 19 members and making it one of the fastest growing EO chapters in the nation.
“Our recruitment success is due to several factors: excellent recruitment chairs in Joe Freedman and Dan Hogan, great publicity, and the economy to name a few,” said Clint Smith, president of EO Nashville and co-founder and CEO of Emma. “The economy is making entrepreneurs really take a step back and understand the necessity of working on their business, instead of just in their business.”
The new members include: Jerry Baker and Austin Meibers of Conexess Group, Michael Burcham of Nashville Entrepreneur Center, Justin Crosslin of Crosslin & Associates, Jolene Dressel of Trojan Labor of Nashville, Vicki Hill and Brian Jones of J&H Consulting, Bob Levy of Paradigm Group, Bryan Merville of Beacon Technologies, Jason Moore of HealthDataSource, Tim Page of OptiMech, restaurateur Sam Sanchez, and Dawson "Lee" Williams of Digital Connections.
