JPMorgan Chase late last week declared it has amassed a 1.7 million-share stake in Cumberland Pharmaceuticals, which went public last August and now sports a market cap (Ticker: CPIX) of about $240 million. The New York-based bank's disclosure appears to make it the second-largest investor in Cumberland, trailing only CEO A.J. Kazimi.

Jeff Saut, Raymond James' chief investment strategist, puts O'Charley's on a short list of stocks that showed good relative strength during the market's recent retracement. O'Charley's shares (Ticker: CHUX), which are rated 'strong buy' by Ray James analyst Bryan Elliott, have risen 20 percent so far this year. According to Saut, O'Charley's and other stocks will have to be strong again soon. He remains cautious in the face of several not-so-positive market signals.
[S]omething is lurking out there that trumped what should have been a decent rally attempt on Scott Brown’s victory. I mean Senator-elect Brown even won 61% of the Kennedy stronghold Hyannis Port for gosh sakes! So the fact that we didn’t even get the hint of a rally from the ‘Massachusetts Massive’ is worrisome. Now I am certainly not predicting it, but I remember July 1998 when the DJIA peaked around 9338 and began to slide. That Dow slide turned into a mini-crash and NOBODY knew why. And then b-a-n-g, out of the blue came Long Term Capital Management that almost ended financial life as we knew it. Accordingly, we remain cautious.

Money manager David Banister says it's time for investors to take gains and sit on their cash as the market sorts itself out. One worrying sign: Bullishness is at its highest since October of 2007.
We need to be on our toes to be prepared to trim back positions if needed and to cut losses quickly if needed. This update is not to alarm anyone, as there is likely one more leg up in this up cycle to higher highs yet. However, let's be on guard.

Investing legend Jim Rogers said there's going to be a big time global food shortage and the smart investor will cash in by ignoring stocks, buying commodities — cotton, coffee and sugar are specifically mentioned — and holding oil and gold. Your stash of ingots will be especially helpful if you need to trade for a few cans of pork and beans.

The investment strategists at Bank of America Merrill Lynch Global Research say you should hike your allocation to equities to 65 percent.
"Simply put, there has been a dramatic shift of balance sheet risk from the corporate to the government balance sheet," the RIC stated. "It is no surprise then that our strategists forecast equity returns to surpass bond returns in the next 12 months."
