Local health care entrepreneur David Iskowe passed away on June 4 following a brief illness. He was 61.
Iskowe was born in Long Branch, New Jersey, and attended the Boston University School of Management before working as a CPA and audit manager at what is now Ernst & Young. He began his health care career as a vice president for HealthAmerica Development, one of the industry’s first for-profit HMO developers. In 1986, he founded FOCUS Healthcare, a workers’ compensation PPO that rose to 41st on the Inc. 500 list of fast-growing private companies and is now part of Coventry Health.
In March 2000, he founded EnableComp Inc. in Cool Springs to handle workers' compensation collections for hospitals. The company, now led by Jim Lackey, works with Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Community Health Systems and all level-one trauma centers in Tennessee, among others.
