The Midtown office of Avis will soon move to a nearby location to make way for mixed-use development.
A source with information about the move and who asked to go unnamed said XMi Commercial Real Estate, which manages the 1816 Church St. building from which Avis operates, is targeting another Church Street site for the car rental operation.
Michael D. Shmerling Partners GP owns the Avis building. A small building that once housed a convenience market is also part of the site (seen below in an image courtesy of Google Maps).
The GP is expected to soon sell the property to Giarratana Development, which plans for the site a 17-story building (see rendering below) to include retail space and 238 apartments. Giarratana Development has the site under contract and would demolished both non-descript buildings.
