Tennessee State University has hired a former college president and veteran development executive to oversee its fundraising efforts.
A.P. "Bun" Perkinson Jr.’s official title is interim vice president for university relations and development. He took on his new job this past Monday and is responsible strategically and operationally for all of the university’s fundraising.
"We are delighted to welcome 'Bun' to the Tennessee State University community during such an important time in the institution’s history," said TSU President Portia Shields. "He brings energy, purpose and enthusiasm to a successful university that is making giant steps forward."
A graduate of Davidson College, Perkinson was president of St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, N.C., from 1975 to 1987. He also has been chief advancement officer at Millsaps College, chief development officer at Rhodes College and, more recently, interim VP for institutional advancement and executive director of the Fairmont State Foundation in West Virginia.
"I am pleased to have the opportunity to become the newest member of the TSU community and to join the dedicated team in the University Relations division," Perkinson said. "I also look forward to meeting and working with the friends of the University and alumni in expanding the impact the institution is having on its students and higher education."
