Hospital chain Vanguard Health Systems says the recent settlement of a long-running legal case involving payments from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services will result in it booking more than $40 million of extra revenues [2]. (Industry leader HCA recently said it will get $271 million [3] from the rural-urban payments settlement.) On a related note, Vanguard officials say changes to how CMS calculates its so-called disproportionate share payments will boost fiscal Q3 revenues by about $9 million. Shares of Vanguard (Ticker: VHS [4]) are down about 11 percent so far this year.
