White & Reasor today announced the addition of two tax attorneys, who joined the firm after long service with Nashville and Knoxville law firms.
Bob Pope joined after 26 years with Nashville's Gullett, Sanford, Robinson & Martin; and, Jim McCarten has joined the firm and relocated here from Knoxville, where he spent the past 17 years with Woolf, McClane, Bright, Allen & Carpenter.
Pope began his career as a trial attorney with the Internal Revenue Service. He earned his J.D. at the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1974, and his bachelor's at St. Andrew's Presbyterian College at Laurinburg, N.C., in 1968.
McCarten also began his career in government, serving as a trial attorney in the tax division of the U.S. Justice Department. He earned his J.D. at the University of Missouri at Kansas City, in 1984; and, his bachelor's at the University of Kansas at Lawrence, in 1984. He earned his LLM in tax via Emory University in 1990.
McCarten is, among other distinctions, immediate past chair of the tax section of the Tennessee Bar Association. Pope has served as the chair of the bankruptcy task force of the American Bar Association's tax section, among other roles and honors.
White & Reasor now has a dozen attorneys.
