Bass Berry & Sims partner Robert E. (Bob) Cooper Jr. has been named legal counsel to incoming governor Phil Bredesen.
The Chattanooga native who holds a law degree from Yale University specializes in business, corporate, constitutional and regulatory law at the Nashville law office.
Cooper will now go to work as Bredesen’s personal attorney, advising him on a wide range of legal matters facing state government. He recently served as legal counsel for Bredesen’s successful gubernatorial campaign.
Cooper joined Bass Berry & Sims as an associate in 1984, becoming a full partner in 1990. Previously, Cooper served as clerk for U.S. District Judge Louis F. Oberdorfer in Washington, D.C.
Cooper, 45, is the son of former Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Robert E. Cooper Sr.
