NuScriptRX lands health system investment

Pharmacy company partnering with long-term care division

A Virginia-based nonprofit health system is now a 12 percent owner of local pharmacy management company NuScriptRX.

Through its undisclosed investment, Sentara Healthcare also has secured a NuScriptRX board seat. The health system has also selected the company's services, which include an automated medication dispensing system and full service pharmacy, for Sentara's long-term care division, Life Care.

"We were impressed with NuScriptRX after we launched their system in our facilities," Bruce Robertson, Sentara Life Care president, said in a release. "As we started to see the results, we saw an opportunity to improve medication safety in life term care outside Sentara by investing in NuScriptRX and advocating for them with other LTC facilities."

Sentara Life Care operates seven nursing centers, three assisted-living villages and two care facilities in Virginia and North Carolina.

"Sentara's commitment to safety and quality aligns perfectly with ours and we are delighted to have this nationally respected health care provider as a partner," said Dan Haron, NuScript CEO. "This relationship provides for a strategic foundation that will enable NuScriptRX to continue to move to a market leading position as an innovative pharmacy solution provider to the long term care industry."
