M*Modal CEO leaving

Former Parallon boss among new board members, will help lead on interim basis

The CEO of M*Modal will step down from his post later this month, just weeks after the medical documentation company exited Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings.

Duncan James (pictured at right) has led M*Modal, which has its headquarters in Cool Springs, since the spring of last year, when he replaced Vern Davenport. Before that, he ran electronic document management company QuadraMed.

Taking his place on an interim basis is a two-headed interim executive committee of former Parallon Business Solutions President and CEO Mike O'Boyle (pictured at left) and Los Angeles-based Jeffrey Goldberg, a veteran health care legal and financial advisor who also is helping lead several other companies. Both men also have been named to M*Modal's new board of directors along with William Allen, chairman of Werner International, and Eugene Davis, chairman and CEO of turnaround firm Pirinate Consulting Group.

"The Board appreciates Duncan's contributions and his leadership during the company's recent successful financial restructuring process," Goldberg said. "Establishing an Interim Executive Committee will allow the Board to work directly with M*Modal's strong management team while we pursue a successor CEO. Looking ahead, we will be identifying opportunities to grow while working with the executive team to ensure M*Modal remains focused on meeting the needs of our core customers."

O'Boyle led Parallon, the back-office and support services subsidiary of HCA Holdings, from early 2012 until late last year.
