Williamson to move to corporate headquarters; Darr will oversee Wilson plant

Bridgestone Americas has announced the promotion of Gary Williamson from his role as plant manager in the company’s Wilson, North Carolina, facility to executive director of manufacturing operations at Bridgestone’s Nashville-based corporate headquarters.

Michael Darr, Bridgestone’s operations manager at the facility, will serve as the new plant manager. Williamson, who has served as the manager since August 2011, will work with Darr during the remainder of August, as first reported by The Wilson Times in Wilson, North Carolina.

“Wilson’s been really good for me but I’m excited about the opportunity,” Williamson said in a release.

Williamson will oversee Bridgestone plants, including the Wilson facility, as ED of manufacturing operations for the Bridgestone Americas Manufacturing Group at the company’s Americas Support Center in Nashville. He has worked for the company almost 34 years at plants in Oklahoma City, Aiken, South Carolina and Wilson.

“Gary has led many significant initiatives within our organization, particularly during his recent tenure in Wilson,” Barry Owens, vice president of manufacturing, Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, said in the release. “We look forward to his continued contributions to Bridgestone Americas as he transitions to ASC.”

Darr, who has worked for Bridgestone Americas 16 years, previously worked with Williamson at the Aiken plant. He joined Bridgestone as part of the Aiken Passenger Radial Tire start-up team, transitioning from industrial engineering to area business manager before taking his operations manager position in Wilson in 2008.

Darr holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Geneva College and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of South Carolina.
