Franklin-based Cowan Benefits is spinning out its human resources advisory practice into a new company, Sera Business Advisors.
Sera is owned and managed by Meredith Jones, who had been running Cowan's HR consulting services division. Sera starts life with about 35 clients and markets risk mitigation, change management, executive coaching, employee training and various other services.
Jones’ team also features her husband, Andy, as controller and business advisors Wendy Morefield and Lisa Gentry. The latter two have been in the HR sector for 36 years.
“The timing was right to create this innovative delivery model to help companies better calibrate people objectives with business goals and results,” Meredith Jones said. “Our model is similar to other offshoots Cowan has created for communications, technology and voluntary benefits and we intend to provide cost-effective support to all sizes of clients in all types of industries. Our philosophy is to be an extension of a client's human resource function.”
Cowan is the 10th-largest benefits broker in the country and has a staff of about 80.
