Neal & Harwell to take space in tower planned for Gulch

Eakin lands high-profile firm for 15-story office structure

Nashville-based law firm Neal & Harwell announced today it will lease space within the 1201 Demonbreun building Eakin Partners plans to develop in the Gulch.

Aubrey Harwell, firm co-founder, said Neal & Harwell will occupy at least one floor (26,000 square feet) of the 15-story building, which will anchor the southwest corner of the 12th Avenue South and Demonbreun Street intersection. The firm is targeting moving to the building, ground for which is slated to be broken this summer, near the end of 2016.

Terms of the lease were not disclosed in a release.

Neal & Harwell was founded in 1971 with three attorneys and originally located in the Third National Bank Building (now the SunTrust Building). In 1986, the firm moved to One Nashville Place, at which it has remained for 25 years.

“Neal & Harwell has been housed in its existing facilities for more than 25 years,” Harwell (pictured) said.  “As the firm has grown, its needs have changed and we have determined it is best to make this move. We are looking forward to being part of this exciting new building with all of the amenities it offers. We also believe this location will be more convenient for our employees and clients while allowing us to remain in downtown Nashville.”

Work on the 300,000 square foot Gulch office tower (see image below) is expected to be completed in early December 2016, at which point Neal & Harwell will relocate. In addition to offices, plans call for retail and restaurant space as well as a green-roof entertainment area with a view of the central business district.

“Neal & Harwell is one of the most highly recognized law firms in the country,” said John Eakin, Eakin Partners chairman.  “Choosing 1201 to be its new home speaks volumes about the state of the art amenities and features the building will provide — features that will enable the firm to continue providing the highest level of service to its clients.”

George Cate, Neal & Harwell member, said 1201 will provide the firm with “premium office space and “easy access to downtown.”

“It will be an ideal location for our firm as we continue serving our clients into the future,” Cate said.

Neal & Harwell is home to more than 70 employees, including 33 attorneys.
