Sarah Cannon CEO named to Pepperdine board

Smith earned accounting degree from California school in '86

Sarah Cannon Research Institute CEO Dee Anna Smith has joined the board of regents of Pepperdine University, her alma mater.

Smith has led Sarah Cannon, the cancer care and research arm of hospital giant HCA Holdings, since 2006, a year after she joined the company as chief information officer when HCA acquired Summit Research Solutions. She has since overseen a lot of growth at Sarah Cannon and will in coming years relocate her home office team from 25th Avenue to its own building in the North Gulch.

Smith earned her bachelor's degree in accounting from Pepperdine in 1986. She started her career that year in audit work at KPMG Peat Marwick, where she worked until 1992. She later founded SiteWorks Solutions, which marketed web-based site-management systems for clinical trials. That company was bought by Oracle in 2004.
