Third-party logistics firm OHL has taken over the fulfillment operations and parcel management of a beauty e-commerce retailer and plans to add 165 workers to handle the work out of Mt. Juliet.
Brentwood-based OHL has set aside 100,000 square feet at the Rockdale Distribution Center I (pictured below) along State Route 840 for its work with Birchbox, which was launched in 2010 and now has more than 800,000 subscribers. New York-based Birchbox markets beauty, grooming and lifestyle products and is preparing to open its first brick-and-mortar store in the Big Apple. The company also does business in France, Spain and the United Kingdom.
"As we continue to look ahead to the future, we needed a fulfillment solution that would make our end-user paramount while being able to meet our growth in the future," said Matt Hertz, director of logistics for Birchbox. "Part of the reason we chose OHL was their ability to grow with us, as well as their customer-centric approach to fulfillment."
Birchbox's previous distribution center was in New Jersey. Officials from both the company and OHL say moving that work to Mt. Juliet will speed up delivery times. OHL will employ 185 people for the job.
"This has been an exciting process from the beginning with Birchbox," said Randy Tucker, president of Contract Logistics at OHL. "Throughout the entire solution design, we made sure that Birchbox had input on all aspects. Within the fulfillment center, we even have Birchbox and OHL staff collocated to make sure this experience is truly collaborative and a partnership most of all."
OHL runs more than 130 distribution centers around the world and employs nearly 7,000 people.
