Belmont University announced today Alberto Gonzales has been named dean of the BU College of Law, effective June 1.
Gonzales, a former U.S. attorney general who served under then-President George H.W. Bush, has held the Doyle Rogers Distinguished Chair of Law position at Belmont since 2012.
As dean, Gonzales will be responsible for the College of Law’s programmatic leadership, financial management, personnel administration and planning.
The announcement follows founding dean Jeff Kinsler’s decision to return to a full-time faculty position.
At Belmont, Gonzales has taught courses in constitutional law, separation of powers, national security law and First Amendment law.
The BU College of Law faculty has approved the appointment.
