Ex-bar president, Sherrard practice leader form new litigation firm

Duo to work with 'a lot of the same clients'

Former Nashville Bar Association President Scott Sims of Walker Tipps & Malone and Sherrard & Roe litigation practice head Sam Funk are striking out on their own to form a new firm.

Sims|Funk PLC will opens its doors at 3310 West End Ave. Thursday, both Sims and Funk confirmed to NashvillePost.com today.

Funk said the new firm will begin with just the two veteran litigators with "a lot of the same clients" they've represented.

Funk was named as head of Sherrard's litigation practice in 2012 and has been at the firm since September of 1998. He was an inaugural member of the Tennessee Bar Association Leadership Law program in 2004 and has, among other things, since 2008 been a trustee of The Oak Hill School, serving as board chair from 2011 to 2013.

Sims served as the president of the bar in 2008 and also is a past president of the Young Lawyers Division of the association and Middle Tennessee Governor of the Young Lawyers Division of the Tennessee Bar Association. He also was a member of the inaugural class of the Leadership Law. Among the cases he has worked in recent years is the dispute between entrepreneur Scott Sohr, whom he represented, and his former partner Preston Ingram.
