LifePoint Hospitals announced Wednesday its board of directors has elected a former top UnitedHealth executive as a director of the company.
The move to add Dr. Reed Tuckson increases the size of LifePoint's board to nine members. Tuckson will serve on the audit and compliance committee, compensation committee, corporate governance and nominating committee and quality committee, and his term will expire at the company's 2016 stockholders' meeting.
"We are pleased that such an accomplished medical professional as Reed has agreed to join our board," Bill Carpenter, chairman and CEO of LifePoint, said in a release. "His wide experience in the health care sector, in-depth knowledge of corporate governance and public policy, and significant public company and board experience will add a valuable perspective, further strengthening our board."
Tuckson is the managing director of Tuckson Health Connections, a private health care consulting company. Until early last year, he served as the executive vice president and chief of medical affairs of UnitedHealth Group. He also has held positions at the American Medical Association, Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation and the public health department for the District of Columbia. Tuckson serves on several additional boards of directors, including Cell Therapeutics, the American Telemedicine Association and Howard University.
