Seafood chain Captain D's has hooked up with a veteran restaurant franchisee who plans to double the company's presence in the Houston market.
The deal with Michael Knobelock also significant for Nashville-based Captain D's in that it marks the first time in a number of years that it has recruited an operator who had been outside its franchisee system. Knobelock — who runs 47 Church's Chicken locations as well as 21 Little Caesars stores, three Sears Appliance and Hardware store and several independent restaurants — is buying company-owned Captain D's restaurants in Hattiesburg and Laurel, Miss., and will build four restaurants in Houston.
The agreement with Knobelock brings to 11 the number of units Captain D's franchisees have in the past year committed to opening. The seven other units are being developed in Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee by two other franchisees. In all, Captain D's runs more than 520 locations in 25 states and on military bases around the world.
