Work begins on $16.7M Nashville State academic building

Project continues community college campus update effort

Work is now fully underway at Nashville State Community College on a $16.7 million academic and support building — the latest project involving the effort to update the west side-based campus.

The building, for which a name has yet to be given, will be located on the north side of the campus and behind the main NSCC buildings that front White Bridge Road. Construction is expected to be completed in time for the spring 2015 semester, according to Keith Ferguson, NSCC executive director of development and public affairs.

“We are very excited about the [building],” Ferguson said. “It will provide much-needed classroom and lab space for our growing student population.”

Messer Construction Co. is serving as general contractor, with Johnson Johnson Crabtree Architects handling design work. Both companies are based in Nashville.

NSCC began upgrading its campus about two years ago. Improvements have been made to buildings, the grounds and surface parking lots.
