Tractor Supply SVP to leave next month

Head of HR joined retailer in '97

The chief people officer at Tractor Supply — a company that has long emphasized the value of developing employees — is preparing to move on after 17 years at the company.

Kim Vella submitted her resignation as senior vice president last week and will put in her last day at Brentwood-based Tractor Supply on March 2. Vella, 47, added the chief people officer to her business card in mid-2010, three years after she was promoted to senior VP. She joined the seller of farm and ranch equipment and supplies in early 1997 — when it had about 200 stores versus almost 1,300 today — and has been a member of its executive committee since May of 2007.

A Tractor Supply spokesman said the company would not comment on Vella's move beyond its bare-bones filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The company employs more than 19,000 people in 48 states.
