COO change at Bridgestone Americas

Two veteran employees to assume new roles

Bridgestone Americas announced today it has named Gordon Knapp COO as well as chairman, CEO and president of Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, effective March 1.

Knapp (pictured at left) will replace Eduardo Minardi, who is relocating to Brussels, Belgium, to assume his role as Bridgestone Europe's executive chair full time. Minardi, who will continue to serve on the Bridgestone Americas board of directors, was named to his European post Jan. 1.

Until a successor is hired, Knapp also will continue to serve as president of North American Consumer Tire at BATO.

Knapp has spent his career — both in the U.S. and internationally — in the consumer products area. Prior to joining BSAM, he served as president of a consumer tissue division at Kimberly Clark. He also has held leadership positions in the consumer products businesses at Pfizer and Warner-Lambert.

Knapp earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Trent University and an M.B.A. from the University of Western Ontario.

“Gordon is smart, strategic and battle-tested,” Gary Garfield, Bridgestone Americas' CEO and president, said in a release. “We are fortunate and excited that his previous experience in leading operations for iconic consumer brands will continue to be an asset as we continue transforming our company and work to generate more value for consumers.”

Garfield said Minardi (pictured at right) helped lead Bridgestone Americas through the “most successful period” in company history since coming on board in 2010.

“His industry knowledge, leadership skills and cross-cultural perspective will be a tremendous asset for our global company in the European market,” Garfield said. “While we will miss Eduardo’s daily guidance and leadership, we are very happy to have his continuing support as a member of BSAM’s Board of Directors and look forward to applauding his future success in Europe.”
