Local music business veteran Randy Wachtler has been named president and CEO of Warner/Chappell Production Music a year and a half after he left the organization.
Wachtler takes over the leadership of Warner Music Group’s production music arm from Randy Thornton, who has left the company. Warner/Chappell in late 2010 bought 615 Music, the company Wachtler founded in 1984, and named him executive vice president for North America. Wachtler will report to Cameron Strang, chairman and CEO of Warner/Chappell Music.
“Randy Wachtler is a world-class music industry veteran, who founded one of the cornerstones of our production music unit,” said Strang. “Having spent more than three decades working in this field, his expertise and wide range of contacts make him the ideal person to grow this high-margin, fast-growing area of our business.”
Warner/Chappell Production Music is the home of more than 70 catalogs and has offices in London, Paris, Los Angeles, New York, Salt Lake City, Hamburg and Stockholm as well as on Music Row. The company has composed music for television shows, films and companies including Major League Baseball, Disney and the Today show.
“I’m very excited to work alongside Cameron and his very talented team once again,” Wachtler said. “It’s an honor to take the reins of one of the largest production music companies in the world and help navigate this business into the future.”
