UnitedHealth plan names TN/AR medical director

Pulmonary and critical care specialists joined insurer in '08

Insurer UnitedHealthcare said Tuesday is has promoted Paul Banick to be the Tennessee and Arkansas medical director for its MidSouth Health Plan. In that role, Banick will oversee the shaping of benefits and services UnitedHealthcare markets to individuals and businesses.

Banick has been the Tennessee/Arkansas inpatient medical director for MidSouth Health Plan. He joined United in 2008 as an associate medical director for UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Tennessee and has more than 15 years of pulmonary and critical care experience in the Knoxville area.

“Dr. Banick’s combination of clinical expertise and leadership experience will serve him well as our market medical director, and I am proud to welcome him into his new role,” said Gregory Reidy, CEO of MidSouth Health Plan.

In addition to his work at United, Banick is a clinical adjunct professor of medicine at DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in Harrogate, Tenn., and he takes part in medical mission work in South America through the Hospitals of Hope and his church.
