Thompson Burton, PLLC, has launched an employment law practice and added J.K. Simms as a partner to lead it.
Simms (pictured) comes to the Nashville-based firm after having served as chair since 2007 of the labor and employment practice group at Cornelius & Collins, LLP.
Simms has handled appeals at the state and federal levels, including arguing an appeal before a 16-judge en banc panel at the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in Cincinnati. He was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court in 2012.
“We're extremely excited with the addition of J.K. to the firm,” Walt Burton, Thompson Burton partner and co-founder, said in a release.
“J.K. not only fits the mold of the type of person that we're looking for to join our firm, he is also recognized as a top labor and employment lawyer who will enhance our ability to serve our clients' needs.”
At Thompson Burton, Simms will conduct training for his clients and advise them in identifying potential employment-related legal issues and resolving day-to-day management and operations issues.
Simms received his J.D. from the University of Tennessee College of Law, where he served as lead editor of student materials for the Tennessee Law Review. He received his undergraduate degree from Lipscomb University, where he graduated magna cum laude. Simms serves on the steering committee of the Tennessee Bar Association Leadership Law program.
The addition of Simms as a Thompson Burton partner follows the firm’s February announcement that J. Cole Dowsley, Jr., had been named a partner. (Read more here.)
