Design and engineering firm Gresham Smith and Partners has hired an industry veteran to lead its Nashville Design Studio, which works on projects around the country.
Randall Gibson comes to Gresham Smith as division vice president and as a former Chicago-based president of Dewberry Architects, where he was named to the top spot in late 2007. He has 30 years of architecture and engineering experience, having focused on planning and project management for a wide range of projects. Gresham officials said he will look to broaden the markets served by the health care and corporate designers in the Nashville Design Studio.
“The A/E industry is in a very dynamic period right now; it presents an exciting opportunity to leverage the firm’s previous success and explore new ventures,” Gibson said. “As we focus on expanding our design services, we will also work to serve as a trusted advisor to our clients through all phases of projects. I’m pleased to join GS&P and look forward to developing a practice that’s increasingly flexible, robust and energetic, and positively capitalizing on the talent of our staff.”
Gibson is no stranger to Nashville. Dewberry was part of a joint-venture design team handling the architectural work on the renovation of the Metro Courthouse. The Ohio native also earned his degree in civil engineering from the University of Tennessee before completing coursework in the engineering MBA program at Northwestern University.
“Randy has dedicated much of his career to growth and development, having successfully managed many large, complex design projects while also directing a 250-person organization,” said Gresham CEO James Bearden. “His wide-ranging experience includes business development, acquisitions, strategic planning, marketing, and financial performance. Randy’s reputation for team-focused leadership precedes him, and we’re excited to welcome him to the GS&P team.”
Gresham Smith’s Nashville Design Studio is currently working on architecture and interior design services for Jackson National Life Insurance’s new 260,000-square-foot national headquarters in Lansing, Mich. Its members also recently completed the renovation of Vanderbilt University’s Rand Hall as well as a 220,000-square-foot addition to an Ohio hospital.
