NewsChannel 5 parent promotes GM

Milwaukee company bought station in December

Journal Communications, the new owner of NewsChannel 5, has promoted Debbie Turner, president and general manager of the local station, to vice president.

The move by Journal — which is not affiliated with the Cool Springs-based specialty publisher — was made at the company's annual shareholder's meeting earlier this month. Journal last December paid $220 million to buy NewsChannel 5 from Landmark Media. Turner's local roles are not changing as a result of the promotion.

"In just a short time, Debbie has become an integral part of the Journal leadership team, and we are very pleased that she has been elected by the Journal board of directors as our newest vice president," said Steven J. Smith, chairman and CEO of Milwaukee-based Journal. "Debbie brings exceptional local media expertise to our company and to her roles leading our NewsChannel 5 team in Nashville and working with our TV and radio stations in the Southeast."

Turner moved to Nashville about 20 years ago and has been NewsChannel 5's GM since 1999. Under her leadership, the station is regularly ranked among the top CBS affiliates in the country. Turner began her career as an auditor for the former Price Waterhouse.
