State jobless rate rises to 7.9%

National unemployment mark at 7.6%

Tennessee’s unemployment rate for March was 7.9 percent, up from the February revised rate of 7.8 percent, Burns Phillips, Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development interim commissioner, announced today.

By comparison, the national unemployment rate for March was 7.6 percent, decreasing by one tenth of one percentage point from the mark of the previous month.

Tennessee’s March unemployment number is the lowest March rate since 2008.
