Saint Thomas, VUMC divisions to anchor Solomon Sumner building

Second phase of New Island Centre will hold 20,000 sq. ft. of medical, retail space

Units of the Saint Thomas Health Services and Vanderbilt University Medical Center ecosystem will this summer move into newly built medical office space located across from HCA Holdings' Hendersonville Medical Center.

Solomon Builders has broken ground on the second phase of its New Island Centre project, the first part of which opened in 2009. Taking medical office space will be an imaging center for Saint Thomas' Premier Radiology division, as well as Hendersonville Children’s Clinic, which is housed under the umbrella of Vanderbilt Integrated Providers. Results Physiotherapy, which moved into Phase I in 2009, is doubling its space with Solomon and also will move to Phase II this summer.

The leases have helped push the occupancy of New Island Centre II to 85 percent, said Solomon Principal Gregg Turner.

“It’s a win-win scenario for both the health care providers and their patients,” Turner said. “These patients will be able to walk into their appointments like they would walk into a retail store, eliminating the inconvenience of finding a parking place and searching through large directories, as well as providing more privacy. The proximity to the hospital and surrounding areas is a real plus for everyone.”
