Surgical device maker inks UK deal

Antioch-based group’s 2012 sales topped $100M

A Nashville-based maker and distributor of surgical equipment has signed a distribution agreement to build its business in the United Kingdom.

The agreement between Symmetry Surgical and Hospital Innovations covers all of the local company’s brands, including the Codman line it acquired in late 2011.

Hospital Innovations, which was founded in 2008, supplies surgical instruments to more than 400 hospitals throughout the U.K. Chris Huntington, COO of Symmetry Surgical, said the two companies’ alignment “will create new opportunities to work closely with hospitals and clinics in the U.K., and further strengthen our presence in the European market.”

Helped by its acquisitions, Antioch-based Symmetry Surgical rang up 2012 sales of more than $107 million. The company is a unit of Indiana-based Symmetry Medical Inc., which also markets orthopedic implants and sterilization cases and trays.
