FirstBank’s Holmes adds CEO to title

Bank president joined Lexington-based company in 2010

The FirstBank Board of Directors has appointed Chris Holmes chief executive officer, one year after naming him president, the bank announced today.

“This decision by the board is the result of a well-executed transition plan we’ve been working on since Chris joined the bank in 2010,” Jim Ayers, FirstBank chairman, said in a release. “We have a great executive management team in place and an exceptionally strong board of directors that partner with Chris in guiding the company.”

Doug Cruickshanks, who joined FirstBank as president and CEO in 2002, will continue in his role as vice chairman, Ayers said in making the announcement.

Prior to joining FirstBank as chief banking officer, Holmes (pictured) was director of corporate financial services and chief retail banking officer for Greenville, S.C.-based South Financial Group. He worked for 14 years in several management positions for National Commerce Financial including CEO and president of National Commerce Bank Services before joining SFG.

Holmes earned a degree in business administration from the University of Memphis in 1986 and began his career with Ernst &Young in Memphis.
