Waller adds in Austin

Attorneys joining from local firm, state hospital group

Law firm Waller has added two veteran health care attorneys, including one partner, to its Austin office.

Fletcher Brown comes to Waller as a partner from Austin-based firm Davis & Wright, where he was a director. At Waller, he will focus on health care compliance and operations issues such as physician contracting, board governance and patient privacy issues. Brown also is chairman of the board of directors for CommunityCare, a federally qualified health clinic serving the Austin area's underserved patients.

Michelle Apodaca has joined Waller as of counsel. Her practice also will focus on compliance and operations work as well as serving as an advocate with the Texas Legislature. Apodaca is the former vice president of government relations at the Texas Hospital Association. She also has been an attorney at Brown McCarroll in Austin and was a compliance officer and in-house counsel at El Paso First Health Plans.

“We are excited to have Michelle and Fletcher join our team, as both will play a critical role in growing our Austin office and expanding Waller’s reach in Texas,” said John Tishler, chairman of Waller. “Their experience as distinguished healthcare attorneys will not only complement our firm’s existing strengths, but will allow us to provide a wider array of legal expertise to our Texas clients.”

Waller set up shop in Texas' capital last June with plans to focus on the regulatory side of the health care sector. The office is now home to six attorneys.
