Texas-based pizza chain targets 10 franchises for Nashville market

Pie Five Pizza Co. to open in Cool Springs in early 2014

Texas-based chain Pie Five Pizza Co. is targeting 10 franchises in the Nashville area with the first slated to open in Cool Springs in early 2014, the company announced today.

The announcement follows a similar announcement in October, when fast-casual pizza restaurant chain Your Pie, based in Athens, Ga., said it plans to open more than 80 restaurants across the Southeast, including in the Nashville market, during the next two years (read more here).

A subsidiary of Pizza Inn Holdings (Ticker: PZZI), Pie Five is headquartered in the Dallas suburb of The Colony. It bills itself as a “fast-casual concept offering individual handcrafted pizzas made to order and prepared in less than five minutes.”

Pie Five Pizza began operations in 2011 and now has 16 locations in four states (Kansas, North Carolina, Texas and Utah) with more than 110 announced franchise locations under contract in 12 states. Other states include Florida, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Virginia.

Forbes.com has named Pie Five one of the "10 Hot New Restaurant Chains from Established Brands.” In addition, Pie Five has been named a 2013 Top 50 Restaurant Brand of the Year and a 2012 Hot Concepts winner by Nation's Restaurant News.

Franchise operators Rich Davis and Ron Payne will oversee the Nashville market effort.

Davis is a consultant, real estate developer and entrepreneur/restaurateur who previously brought the Schlotzsky's brand to Nashville.

"Fast casual concepts are growing like wildfire and Pie Five is leading the charge within the pizza space," Davis said in a release. "Ron and I are extremely impressed with [the company’s] operational model. Nashville has become the new center of the Southeast. It's such a vibrant city with a great quality of life, and we're convinced Pie Five will be a welcome addition to the dining landscape."
